The “oa” vowel team is a common spelling pattern where the two vowels “team up” together to make one sound.
In most words, “oa” creates the long O sound, meaning the letter O says its name, like in boat, road, and float.

Once students are comfortable reading and spelling common “oa” vowel team words, they can be introduced to slightly more challenging examples. These words are longer and may include extra consonant blends or digraphs, which can make them harder to decode at first.
