Ice Hockey was first played in the SUMMER Olympics!

According to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) men’s ice hockey was first played at the 1920 SUMMER Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. (Reference). Yes, Summer Olympics. The games were held in April 1920.

Then once the Winter Olympics became “a thing” in 1924, men’s ice hockey has been played at the international tournament ever since.

And women’s ice hockey was introduced at the 1998 Winter Olympics held in Nagano, Japan. (Reference)



Interesting Fact about Figure Skating ⛸

Figure skating has been in the Olympics even longer than ice hockey. In fact, figure skating has been in the Olympics since before “Winter Olympics” even existed.

Figure skating was another “winter” sport that was initially held during the Summer Olympics. (Reference) It was first held at the 1908 London Summer Olympics.
